Odoo Manufacturing - Improved Operational Efficiency

Odoo Manufacturing - Improved Operational Efficiency

To illustrate the brief overview & history of manufacturing, it began as a hand-made procedure. It started as a hand-made process to outline the brief history of development. The raw materials were processed into useful products by qualified laborers. The intervention of devices and mechanics was minimal. In order to produce products that were useful to consumers, basic tools and human labor were then used to increase the value of the raw materials. Finished products are always sold at a higher value than the sum of raw materials, taking into account the production of labor.

In the 19th century, with rising buyers, finished goods were more in demand. It demanded mass production. Thus, production began to be mechanized. This lowered labor spending and increased the output of goods. Mass processing required labor division and mechanization to maximize labor productivity. With the industrial revolution, assembly-line production and industrial productivity increased geometrically. The definition of production and manufacturing has changed dramatically.

With the rising population and changing social and economic systems, the need and demands keep growing. The greater the growth, the greater the demand. For the growth of a company, improving the productivity of factories and production units is indispensable. Although the first step to improving production efficiency was mechanization, today the shift is towards automation.

Assembly line production

In their production phase, most mass manufacturing units have switched to assembly lines. This enables manufacturers to produce in a predefined sequence the parts of the finished product and assemble them step by step to produce the final product. In many sectors, the process is one that has found appeal.

Production line

In comparison to the assembly line, the production line does not require the assembly of components to form a new product, but rather the packaging of raw materials into finished products. In food manufacturing, this is widely used.

Production has advanced so far today that even quality controls, product life management, maintenance, etc. are involved. Every day, the production units are improving their game. More and more has been added to the development and the management of this quality of the system has its own challenges. The manufacturing unit is automated by most businesses to preserve the system's productivity.

Odoo Manufacturing

To ensure maximum customer satisfaction and smooth production, the Odoo manufacturing platform regulates the multiple functions of the manufacturing unit. The software is integrated with other units, such as:

  • Purchasing, "Buying"

  • The PLM

  • Repair and maintenance

  • Quality

There are these add-on modules in the manufacturing module that boost the functionality.

With a single manufacturing unit or multiple work centers, the Odoo Manufacturing module may run. We should ensure that the work centers in the configuration are unchecked and set up and create a different manufacturing order in the case of a single manufacturing unit.

Creating a Manufacturing Order

From the dashboard, we can create a new order and edit the order details.

We may add the material bill from the current list or generate a new material bill for the product. While making, along with the number of units, we may add the various components that are to be used for output. After the responsible person has been appointed and the business chosen (in case of multi-company). Creating an accurate Bill of Material smoothes the method of production. It also ensures that at the time of production, the parts necessary for assembly are usable.

Create Bill of Materials

The material bill can be created under the menu of the products. We may describe & define a product, a variant, and the number of units in the BoM menu. The type of BoM can choose between this product and Kit manufacturing. While establishing production order and during inventory transition, the BoM style kit will break the items into components.

Confirming an order
The order window will be updated to have the new options applied after the manufacturing order is confirmed.

We can check the availability of the different components and begin manufacturing respectively
We can start manufacturing if all the materials necessary for the specific order are available. In the case of missing components, in order to open the product window, we can open the component information from the list and click the product link.

Depending on the stock on hand, we can update the product quantity. Depending on the product configuration, we can also replenish the product that would cause a quote, manufacturing order, or a transfer.

Once the materials have been replenished and available for use, manufacturing will be in progress. The order will be marked as In Progress, depending on the units left to be made. We may verify the amount to be manufactured. We will mark the order as completed once the amounts to be delivered are met, and this will close the order.

In the order window, we can also scrap component items from the inventory.
Call For Repairs (Maintenance Request)
We may create a maintenance request for the produced manufacturing order directly. It is possible to establish both corrective and preventive maintenance and delegate them to a maintenance team. We may mark the maintenance request's priority and set & schedule a date.

In the tabs, the scrap and repair maintenance requests for the order will be shown and displayed.

Manufacturing with work centers

We can allow work orders in the Configuration > Settings if the manufacturing is done in more than one work center.
Enable the order of work and save the modifications. We're going to get a link to the work center, where we can add the work centers Like product information and cost data, we can configure the details of the new work center.
In the event that the work center is busy or occupied, we will have alternate work centers for orders.

We can get an overview of the orders in each work center after the work centers are activated, and we can schedule new orders for each center as well.
We can generate new manufacturing orders from the operations drop-down menu once work centers are allowed.

Now that the manufacturing is conducted & done by work centers, the procedure will be broken down to the work orders. The manufacturing order window's work orders tab would have the option of adding new operations and assigning work centers for the same.

Additionally, under configuration, we can build - create operations and choose from the list. This will automatically fill in the work order information as designed & configured for the unique operation.
To close the order, we may validate the order from the window. And we can establish a backorder in the case of the remaining items. In the popup, the option will be available while we validate the order.
Save and Printing
We can save the production order, product label (ZPL or PDF), and cost analysis as a pdf and print it.
